Maritime and aviation e-fuels: essential for decarbonization and a French industrial opportunity

France has the potential to bring e-fuel projects to final investment decisions—our project mapping proves it (in French). Their implementation will depend on the regulatory framework, and in particular on the bond systems that create the market and provide visibility to investors. A decisive lever is now at play: the right sizing of the IRICC’s extra-budgetary mechanism. The government proposal submitted for consultation in May is insufficient; this must be corrected. Without this, there will be no large-scale industrial development of maritime e-fuels, nor any strategic repositioning of our ports to distribute these low-carbon fuels. E-fuels are physically essential for the decarbonization of these sectors, and they represent a major industrial opportunity for France: let’s finalize the framework to get them off the ground!
